Geert Jan Mantel, who has been president of Yanmar Marine International since its inception in 2002, has been appointed a director of the main board of Yanmar in Osaka, Japan.
Mr Mantel will continue to operate from Almere in The Netherlands, combining his new role with another of his current appointments, president of Yanmar Europe, and has joined the board of Ammann-Yanmar in France. Yanmar Marine chose Genoa Boat Show at the beginning of October to launch Zeus pod drive systems for use with its diesel engines in the power range 400–575mhp. There was considerable interest in the Zeus pod drive coupled to a 530mhp Yanmar 6CX530 at the Italian show. Yanmar Marine also announced to launch two smaller Pods, for engines of 450mhp and below. All are the result of co-operation with transmissions company ZF Marine.
The ZT350 is an all-new sterndrive, designed and manufactured by Yanmar Marine for use with its BY and LP series diesel engines.
Yanmar Marine is to offer Pod drives on a range of its diesel engines. The lightweight, electric steering ZF Pod 2500 and 2800 have been designed for its engines of 450mhp and below.
The new six-cylinder 6CX530 is a further addition to Yanmar Marine’s range of electronic control diesel engines. At 855 kilograms dry weight it is the lightest in its power class, well over 200 kilos less than some comparable-size units. It is the only 7.4 litre diesel available for the pleasure boat market.
Yanmar Marine has announced the introduction of a new generation of it’s BY Series lightweight diesels, two years after the first of these electronically controlled common rail engines became available.
A compact, economical solution to the supply of onboard electricity for sailboats is being introduced by Yanmar Marine. The KMG65E generating system has been developed to work with Yanmar’s 3JH5 (39 hp) and 4JH5-AE (54 hp) diesel engines.
The generator is a mere 105mm deep and weighs just 21kg, fitting between the engine and transmission, whether standard gearbox or SD50 Saildrive. Boat owners have the choice of one or two remote power boxes, providing 3kW or 6kW at 230 volts, 50Hz. read more KMG65E brochure
Yanmar Marine has approved B5 Bio Diesel fuel for use across most of its recreational marine engines, as part of the company’s continuing efforts to encourage environmentally friendly boating. In general, when compared to standard diesel fuel, B5 Bio Diesel usage can reduce particulate matter and the emission of so-called greenhouse gases. A maximum 5% B5 Bio Diesel is blended with standard fuel and must conform to ASTM D6751 or ISO EN14214 specifications.
